How to Measure for a Glass Splashback

Accurate measurements are the most important part of ordering a made-to-measure glass splashback. Follow these steps carefully and your panels will fit perfectly first time.

What you will need

  • A steel tape measure (not a fabric one)
  • Pencil and paper or the notes app on your phone
  • A spirit level (recommended)

Step-by-step measuring guide

Step 1 — Clear the area

Remove any items from the worktop or wall area you are measuring. For an accurate result the surface should be accessible and unobstructed.

Step 2 — Measure the width

Measure the full width of the panel area in millimetres from left edge to right edge. Take the measurement at the top, middle and bottom — walls are rarely perfectly square. Record the smallest measurement as your width.

Step 3 — Measure the height

Measure the height of the panel area in millimetres from the bottom edge (usually the worktop surface or tile line) to the top edge (usually the underside of a wall cabinet or the ceiling). Again take three readings and record the smallest.

Step 4 — Mark socket and switch positions

If there are electrical sockets or switches within the panel area, measure the distance from the left edge of the panel to the centre of each socket, and from the bottom edge of the panel to the centre of each socket. Note the cutout size required (standard UK single socket is 85mm × 85mm; double is 150mm × 85mm).

Step 5 — Check for obstacles and notches

Note any pipes, brackets or corners that require a notch or shaped cut. Sketch a simple diagram with dimensions for each obstacle.

Step 6 — Enter your measurements in our quote tool

Go to our online quote tool, enter your panel dimensions, add any socket cutouts or notches, and get an instant price. For bespoke or irregular shapes, send us your dimensioned sketch and we will quote manually.

Top tips

  • Always measure in millimetres — never centimetres or inches.
  • If fitting between two walls, we recommend ordering 2mm narrower than your measurement to allow for silicone beading on each side.
  • Take photos of the area — they are useful if you need to contact us with a query.
